NIED DARNELL BOOKS

You'd think that there would be a limit to the names that an author would answer to, but apparently that is not the case here. So, why did I feel the need to create yet another one? Nied Darnell is the newest! Well, because readers who enjoy romance or supernatural/paranormal magic related stories don't always want to read something beyond their preferred genre niche, as we call it in authorland. Ergo, when I decided to take my history leanings and mix them with . . . er . . . other stuff for Weird West Steampunk, Dieselpunk adventure comedy, and Gaslamp fantasy mystery comedy, there obviously had to be a new "persona" spinning these tales to keep things separate.

There's plenty of history twisted along the way here. In the Covert Cogs tales, the world the Allegory Society sends their agents out investigating despicable crimes in the Gilded (but altered) Age. A 1920s Dieselpunk world of hoodlums, some from other dimensions, some from the world of fairytales, are things under the eye of the Supernatural Investigation Network (SIN). And most recently, Miss Alasadorph Fitz-Castlecutt and her inquiry agent partner, Reggie Whitemayne have entered the scene in a London Gaslamp world.

All of these tales are either novella or short story length, though the first of a trilogy of novel length tales has been completed with the Covert Cogs. It's currently waiting for the rest of the story to catch up with it.

But let's get to the titles currently available!

TRUST THE GOVERNMENT TO DO SOMETHING WITHOUT ASKING FIRST . . . PARTICULARLY IF YOU’RE A SOLDIER !!!

The first thing the men waking up in the hospital with metal parts think, though, is “how best can I commit suicide to escape being only half a man?” That was definitely on Major Colt Webb's mind until a nurse who turned out to be an undercover Covert Cog let him fill in for the partner she lacked while investigating the theft of the medical miracle that had turned him into half a man.

If Samanthalia Gast didn't realize he'd volunteered in the hope of suicide by Covert Cog assignment, all the better.

THE FOLLIES OF 1919

A Comedic Dieselpunk Short Story

Supernatural Investigation Network (SIN)

E-book only

It’s not the job her fairy godmother promised.

But since she’s a Grimm, it’s the job she should have expected.

Fresh from the European fields of war – the Elf vs Troll one – where she won praise for her undercover work, Gwen Grimm expected life as an agent for the Supernatural Investigation Network, the Grimm family business, to be less dangerous.

Her cousin Albert, head of the firm, laughs at danger. Probably because he’s sitting behind a desk. That’s not where Gwen’s headed.

Enter the early 20th century world of the Grimm family. A comedic 1920s Dieselpunk world takes center stage as a fairytale cast waltzes – or does the Charleston or the Lindy – through a world where Chicago typewriters are likely to appear in a mug’s paws and con games are a SIN agent’s best defense.

WAGES OF S.I.N.

A Comedic Dieselpunk Short Story

Supernatural Investigation Network (SIN)

E-book only

GWENDOLYN GRIMM IS WORTH THREE AGENTS !!!

And some nights she actually IS ...three different agents, that is.

As a top notch glamour expert, whether she dons a John Gilbert moustache as Dolin, or goes Jazz Baby as Pepper Saltash, Gwen's gonna get her man...or thing...in this short Dieselpunk adventurous crIme romp.

She knows her onions, carries a rosco, and prefers avoiding droppers and butter and egg men while at the speakeasy.

Not that that is easy, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get the job done. Particularly when her boss at the Supernatural Investigation Network (SIN) has her running a dangerous con with palookas who aren't all native to Planet Earth.

The Roarin' Twenties were never this much fun. With celebrity name dropping and slang slug like Babe Ruth was gonna take a swing at it, "Wages of SIN" is a comedy delight. Just watch out for the guys carrying Chicago typewriters if you don't want a reenactment of St. Valentine's Day, if you get the driff.
